OpenAI released more emails from Elon Musk, in case you're interested in reading them.

OpenAI is challenging Elon Musk's court order that seeks to prevent the artificial intelligence startup from becoming a for-profit company, presenting evidence that he had initially supported this idea.

OpenAI has shared a series of documents in the form of an extensive timeline that includes emails, text messages, and legal documents. These materials illustrate that Elon Musk's request to prevent OpenAI from becoming a for-profit company contrasts with his expressed desires in 2017. Essentially, OpenAI is highlighting that Musk, one of the co-founders, wanted the artificial intelligence startup to adopt a profitable business model and that he would take on the role of CEO.

In 2017, Musk and OpenAI reached an agreement on the necessity for the organization, which was then a non-profit, to transform into a for-profit entity to "advance its mission" and capitalize on the public interest generated after their AI achieved victories over professional players in one-on-one matches of Dota 2. OpenAI notes that Musk proposed a new board structure that would grant him "unequivocal initial control over the company," a proposal that the organization rejected. This led to disagreements between Musk and OpenAI's leadership, eventually resulting in his departure from the board in 2018.

In 2023, Musk founded xAI, an artificial intelligence startup that directly competes with OpenAI. It is evident that OpenAI aims to expose the narrative behind Musk's legal actions. He sued OpenAI in March 2024, claiming that decisions made regarding Microsoft violated its status as a non-profit organization. However, Musk withdrew the lawsuit soon after OpenAI published a blog with emails indicating his interest in merging OpenAI with Tesla or taking on the role of CEO.

OpenAI's new blog expands on these details and appears to be designed to project a similar image regarding the relationship between Musk and the organization.
