OpenAI enables the feature to call ChatGPT from your phone.

Hello, may I speak with ChatGPT, please?

OpenAI has taken a significant step towards turning ChatGPT into a comprehensive application, allowing users to make phone calls and send messages via WhatsApp. From now on, users can communicate with ChatGPT through the number 1-800-ChatGPT by adding it to their contact list. In a live demonstration, it was shown how users can consult ChatGPT during a road trip about sites and monuments, such as the famous "Flintstone House."

The presentation was made on an iPhone, but OpenAI also demonstrated that it is possible to make calls from older phones, including a flip phone and a rotary phone, and that ChatGPT responds to queries seamlessly. Users calling from a phone plan in the U.S. will receive 15 minutes of free calls. A spokesperson for OpenAI confirmed that call data and WhatsApp messages will not be used for model training.

Recently, OpenAI has implemented new features for ChatGPT, such as Canvas, which allows for writing and coding work, and Projects, which organizes conversations into smart folders. These tools are designed to appeal to more casual users or those less tech-savvy, thus expanding the demographic range of its user base.

Additionally, OpenAI is expected to introduce tools that will enable ChatGPT to browse the internet, write code on behalf of the user, and even send proactive messages. There have been leaks about the possible arrival of a feature called "Tasks" that would help users automate future tasks, such as receiving news updates, similar to Google Alerts.

Within WhatsApp, ChatGPT operates as a chatbot, allowing users to send messages for information, such as a pesto recipe. In the future, support for images in these interactions will be added, further expanding the capabilities of the application.
