Nvidia's $249 development kit offers affordable and compact artificial intelligence power.

It is half as expensive as its previous version.

Nvidia has introduced the new addition to its Jetson Orin Nano computer line, the Jetson Orin Nano Super Developer Kit. This innovative device, similar to a Raspberry Pi but geared towards powerful artificial intelligence processing, is priced at $249 and offers significantly greater performance than its predecessor at a considerably lower cost. It is now available for purchase.

Since its launch in 2019, the Jetson Nano line has provided an affordable option for enthusiasts and creators to drive their artificial intelligence and robotics projects. According to Nvidia, the neural processing performance of the Nano Super is 70% higher, reaching 67 TOPS compared to the 40 TOPS of the previous model. Additionally, it features 50% more memory bandwidth, reaching 102GB/s, which promises to enhance speed in operations.

The Jetson Orin Nano Super kit uses practically the same hardware as the original Orin Nano version and is expected to deliver similar performance gains through a JetPack upgrade. Nvidia explains that this improvement is due to "a new power mode that increases the frequencies of the GPU, memory, and CPU." Jensen Huang, CEO of Nvidia, showcased the Nano Super in a video highlighting its capabilities.

This development kit includes a reference carrier board and an 8GB Jetson Orin Nano system-on-module, which consists of an Nvidia Ampere GPU with tensor cores and a 6-core Arm CPU. Nvidia considers the Nano Super Developer Kit to be "an ideal solution" for developing chatbots, AI visual agents, and AI-based robots.
