Now you can use an external webcam with Microsoft Teams on your iPad. Discover how to do it.
Do you like using Microsoft Teams on your iPad? Now you can finally do it with an external camera.
The iPad has become the preferred choice for many users looking for a device to work with, including making video calls. Although the front camera of iPads has improved over time, some people opt to use external webcams since they often offer better quality than the tablet's built-in camera or even some laptops. Recently, Microsoft announced the integration of support for external cameras in Microsoft Teams for iPad users through a statement on its blog. This addition comes a bit late, as Apple enabled support for USB-C cameras on the iPad since the introduction of iPadOS 17.
The importance of this feature lies in the superiority of external cameras. For example, the front camera of the iPad Pro M4 only offers 12MP, while many external webcams feature more megapixels and higher resolution. Additionally, they allow adjustments to dynamic range, field of view, and lighting, enhancing the visual quality and professional appearance of broadcasts.
To use an external camera with Microsoft Teams on the iPad, the process is straightforward. Simply connect the camera to the iPad's USB-C port and join the meeting. The camera can be connected before or during the event. To switch back to the iPad's camera, just disconnect the external camera. However, it's important to note that there is currently no native control in Microsoft Teams to toggle between the built-in and external camera; as long as the external camera is connected, Teams will automatically select it.
Almost all USB-C camera models are compatible, meaning that the equipment you already have could work without issues. To enjoy this new functionality, it is recommended to update Microsoft Teams on the iPad.
