Now it is possible to rent a PlayStation 5 through PlayStation Direct for the price of a sandwich.

A new rental program allows more players to access the PlayStation 5 at a significantly lower total cost.

PlayStation 5, a considerable investment, can now be accessed without a high upfront cost thanks to a new rental program launched by PlayStation Direct, currently available only in the UK. This system allows users to rent a PlayStation 5 console starting from £10.99 (approximately $15). The collaboration with Raylo has been key in establishing this program.

There are five different options for interested customers. The most affordable is the PlayStation 5 Digital, which starts at £10.99 per month with a 36-month contract. The cost increases if a shorter rental term is chosen, and there is a no-contract option priced at £21.95 per month that allows cancellation at any time. On the other hand, the most expensive model is the PlayStation 5 Pro, which has a minimum fee of £18.95 per month for a 36-month contract, rising to £26.99 for a year. If the no-contract plan is selected, the monthly fee increases to £35.59.

An additional advantage is that shipping is free, and no initial payment is required, allowing those on a tighter budget to enjoy a PlayStation 5 and explore games without a long-term commitment. At the end of the rental period, there is no need to return the console; users have the option to keep it, upgrade to another model, or cancel the contract by returning the device. Additionally, insurance for the console is available starting at £3.99 per month.

This program not only aims to make console access easier for economic reasons but also seeks to minimize environmental impact. By allowing a used console to be shared, it reduces the need to produce new units, benefiting more players. While this could affect overall sales of the PlayStation 5, it opens the door to a broader segment of the gaming community.
