Now available on DVD: The Tiny11 developer has optimized Windows 11 24H2 and it's ready to use.
NTDEV has reduced the size of Windows 11 24H2, optimizing its performance on devices with limited resources.
Recently, a major feature update for Windows 11, version 24H2, has been launched. In this context, the developer NTDEV, known for its "Tiny11" and "Tiny10" projects (reduced versions of Windows 11 and 10), has introduced an extremely lightweight and compact version of 24H2. This initiative has been highlighted for its focus on creating versions of Windows that require minimal resources in terms of both storage and system memory, allowing the operating system to run on older machines or with limited hardware.
Following the recent release of 24H2, Microsoft also shared information about Windows 11 Enterprise LTSC 2024, or Windows 11 LTSC 24H2, a special edition of the operating system designed for businesses and organizations that do not receive updates as frequently as regular users. NTDEV has optimized this version to reduce its size to that of Tiny11.
The NTDEV team has showcased screenshots of their achievement on social platforms, stating that the Tiny11 version based on Windows 11 LTSC 24H2 can fit on a DVD. To put this into perspective, a DVD has a capacity of approximately 4.7 GB, while the Tiny11 version only occupies 3.54 GB, leaving additional space on the disk. They explained that they achieved this using a method called LZX delta compression. This technique, common in computing, allows for file size reduction while preserving essential information, utilizing the advanced compression techniques of the NTFS file system in Windows 11.
Users have shown a particular preference for versions like Tiny11, not only because of their reduced size that allows them to be stored on a DVD but also due to their low RAM consumption, leaving more resources available for other tasks. In fact, it has been reported that NTDEV managed to run Tiny11 using only 176MB of RAM, a significantly lower figure than the 4GB required by the standard versions of Windows 11. Additionally, NTDEV presented a "text-only" version of Windows 11 that uses just 100MB of RAM by eliminating the graphical interface, making it easier to use.
For those confident in modifying their devices, installing Tiny11 on a PC might be an option, although even those who prefer to stick with the full version of Windows 11 can acknowledge NTDEV's achievements. This type of development highlights the potential to run a modern operating system with minimal hardware requirements, enabling older and less powerful machines to utilize contemporary operating systems like Windows 10 and 11.
As the demands for hardware performance continue to rise, initiatives like this demonstrate the creativity and ingenuity of developers like NTDEV, showing how efficient software design can extend the lifespan of devices. At a time when the environmental cost of our consumer demands is beginning to be recognized, such advancements suggest a path toward sustainable technological innovation.
