NotebookLM, Google's innovative artificial intelligence podcasting tool, receives major updates.
Deep podcasts generated by artificial intelligence, created just for you.
NotebookLM, Google's AI-powered teaching tool, is receiving significant updates. While the term "teaching tool" may sound unappealing, NotebookLM actually presents itself as a revolutionary platform that allows users to generate an audio overview in which two AI voices explain the source material in a podcast-like format. Within minutes, users can obtain a completely personalized podcast episode that captures the essence of their favorite podcasters while maintaining a natural and friendly conversation.
After its presentation at the Google I/O event in May, NotebookLM launched Audio Overviews in September and has since gained popularity among AI enthusiasts. This is due to its ability to synthesize information in a way that is easily understandable for students or anyone looking to learn more accessibly. Some users have been entering journal entries into NotebookLM to gain an outside perspective. It is worth mentioning that the tool asserts that it does not use user information to train the model, although it is suggested that it should not be used as a virtual therapist.
Starting Thursday, Google has decided to take NotebookLM out of its experimental phase and introduce a series of new features to enhance its utility. Previously, users had limited control over how their sources were interpreted and presented in the Audio Overviews. Now, it is possible to guide the conversation through instructions before generating the personalized podcast. Users can ask NotebookLM to "focus on specific topics or adjust the level of expertise according to their audience," using the "Customize" button alongside the "Generate" one.
Additionally, a feature has been added that allows users to continue modifying their notebook while the Audio Overview plays in the background. This way, users can "consult sources, receive quotes, and explore relevant citations without interrupting the audio." Furthermore, NotebookLM Business has been launched, a paid version that offers premium features aimed at businesses, universities, and organizations.
