Nintendo introduces live chat with Gamechat on the Switch 2.
Finally, they did it.
Nintendo has introduced an innovative feature in its upcoming console, the Nintendo Switch 2, which promises to transform the way players interact during their gaming sessions. This Wednesday, the company revealed GameChat, a functionality that will allow users to communicate with each other in-game more intuitively and enjoyably.
One of the surprises of this new feature is the "C" button, which has been integrated into the Joy-Con controllers. This button not only enables the live chat function but also includes a built-in microphone capable of picking up audio and filtering out external noise. Additionally, there will be a camera accessory that will allow for GameChat with real-time video streaming, further enhancing the shared gaming experience.
The purpose of GameChat is to emulate in-person interaction in a virtual environment. To this end, it will include features that allow users to switch between video streaming and game content, capture joint images within the game, and expand individual screens. Players will also be able to enjoy different titles simultaneously during a GameChat session and share their gameplay experience, providing a feeling similar to platforms like Discord.
Although using GameChat will require a premium subscription to Nintendo Switch Online, there will be a free trial available for interested users to experience the functionality before purchasing the subscription. The new console, Nintendo Switch 2, is set to launch on June 5, so players won’t have to wait long to try out these innovative features.
