Netflix broadcasted the fight between Tyson and Paul to 60 million homes.

Netflix faced challenges during its biggest live streaming event to date.

Last night, during the boxing match between Mike Tyson and Jake Paul, there were peaks of "65 million simultaneous streams" on Netflix, according to Most Valuable Promotions, the event's promotional company. This figure represented a reach of 60 million households worldwide. This number far exceeds the viewership that Netflix was able to achieve during its NFL broadcast on Christmas Day this year, assuming all those who watched last year repeated the experience.

Despite the high demand, many viewers faced technical issues with the stream, leading to a flood of complaints on social media about the quality of the service, which many described as blurry and affected by interruptions and disconnections. Downdetector reported over 100,000 incidents related to Netflix streaming problems during the event.

Additionally, this number of simultaneous viewers is remarkable for a single live event. For context, Disney Plus Hotstar recorded 59 million simultaneous streams during a World Cup cricket match last year, reaching similar figures on previous days and again in June of this year.

Elizabeth Stone, Netflix's CTO, communicated to employees that the company faced this "unprecedented scale" by prioritizing stream stability for the "majority of viewers." Despite acknowledging that there was a poor experience for some, she considers the event a great success.
