Motorola seems to be resolving its issues with software updates.
For the second time in two months, Motorola seems to be planning the launch of a new Android phone that will receive software updates for five years. This is a notable change.
Motorola seems to be improving its update offerings for Android smartphones, catching up with competitors like Samsung and Google. A new model from the brand, the Motorola Moto G75, promises to include five years of Android updates, making it the second Motorola device in just a few months to offer this length of support. This model, which will launch with Android 14, will have an update cycle that allows users to advance to at least Android 19, in addition to providing six years of security patches.
Last month, it was announced that the Motorola Edge 50 Neo would also have five years of updates for both the operating system and security. While this number doesn't reach the seven years offered by companies like Samsung and Google, it represents a significant increase from what Motorola previously provided. The update guarantee is confirmed on the product page for the Moto G75, which states: “Stay up to date with the latest version of Android by receiving five operating system updates and six years of security updates guaranteed until 2029.”
The Motorola Moto G75 is a mid-range smartphone that stands out for its performance at its price point. Equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 chipset, it features a 6.78-inch Full HD+ LCD display and a refresh rate of 120Hz. It also supports expandable storage via a microSD card of up to 1TB. This device also boasts a 50-megapixel main camera with optical image stabilization and Quad Pixel technology, along with a 5,000mAh battery that supports 30W TurboPower fast charging and 15W wireless charging.
The Moto G75 will be available in three colors: Charcoal Gray, Aqua Blue, and Succulent Green. The Charcoal Gray model has a matte finish, while Aqua Blue and Succulent Green feature vegan leather back panels. While it seems to be a competitive option in the budget range, the real interest lies in its update policy. This is a field where Motorola has traditionally struggled, and while we will have to wait to see if the company delivers on this promise, it is a promising step toward improvement.
So far, Motorola has not revealed details about the pricing and availability of the Moto G75.
