Google has created a new doodle and a video to commemorate the most notable viral events of 2024, from Moo Deng to solar eclipses.
Google continues its commemorations for the year 2024, and to that end, it has launched a new Doodle featuring the adorable pygmy hippo Moo Deng, one of the viral phenomena of the year. Additionally, a video has been released that highlights the terms with the highest increase in searches, known as Breakout Searches, where some terms saw a growth of 5,000% compared to the previous year.
The Doodle not only showcases Moo Deng but also alludes to the solar eclipse that took place in April 2024. Among the additional elements visible are pink cowboy boots, hinting at the popularity of country music throughout the year, and pink lips, which could be linked to hit songs by artists like ROSÉ & Bruno Mars or to Sabrina Carpenter's song "Espresso."
Furthermore, Google has released a new short film titled Year in Search, which highlights other significant moments from 2024, such as the spectacular display of the northern lights that occurred in May as a result of a solar storm, as well as the unusual event of the cicadas, which emerged in large numbers for the first time since 1803. The opening of the video is accompanied by the powerful music of "Not Like Us" by Kendrick Lamar.
