MKBHD just unveiled his smartphone of the year.
The well-known tech YouTuber commented that his winning choice "might be the most boring option," but he is really passionate about it.
Marques Brownlee, a prominent technology YouTuber, has revealed his choice for the best smartphone of 2024, and surprisingly, it’s not an iPhone. In a video shared with his 19.7 million followers, he began by highlighting some of his favorite smartphone selections, saving his top choice for the end. During the presentation, Brownlee expressed that his philosophy centers on rewarding overall excellence.
Among the phones he rated as noteworthy is the Vivo X200 Pro, which he describes as a device that has it all, including a bright display, a powerful chipset, excellent cameras, and good battery life with fast charging. However, he noted that it doesn’t come with the Snapdragon 8 Elite, although it does have a remarkable MediaTek chip.
He also mentioned the Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold, praising it as a significant comeback story for the Pixel Fold series and highlighting that it’s a device he would use daily. The standard iPhone 16, and not its Pro version, caught his attention for being the most complete base iPhone ever made, indicating that it was a good year for those who don’t want to spend $1,500 on an iPhone.
Before revealing his ultimate choice, Brownlee discussed his daily driver, the Google Pixel 9 Pro XL, favored for its longer battery life. Thus, after mentioning all these options, he welcomed the big reveal: the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra is the best smartphone of 2024. Brownlee praised the phone for its excellence in all aspects, including display quality, chipset, battery life, cameras, software, and durability. He also highlighted the exceptional anti-reflective coating on the screen and the good quality of the vibration motor and speakers.
Despite his enthusiasm, the YouTuber acknowledged that his choice could be considered the most boring, as the device's design has not changed since the Galaxy S22 Ultra. In other reviews, such as the one from Digital Trends, the Galaxy S24 Ultra was described as "the best Ultra of all time," emphasizing that the improvements were not in a redesigned look but rather in new features, innovative technology, and enhancements that enrich the user experience, points with which Brownlee fully agrees.
