MKBHD updated his Panels app, but did not fix the most important issue.

The criticized Panels app by MKBHD has undergone some improvements, but it is still too expensive for the average user.

The recent wallpaper application launched by MKBHD has generated considerable controversy since its release. Despite attempting to calm disgruntled followers with a statement on X, the response was not as anticipated. Part of the public development process involves receiving massive feedback immediately, something the content creator views as a positive aspect.

MKBHD acknowledged the need to address concerns about the excessive amount of data the app requested and committed to improving transparency. Although the app has been updated to enhance user experience, the pricing structure has remained unchanged. As many users pointed out, the cost is high for a wallpaper application, especially in a context where high-resolution images can be easily downloaded from Google.

Previously, Panels users had to subscribe at a cost of $11.99 per month or $49.99 per year to access images in their highest quality. There was a free option, but this required users to watch two ads before downloading wallpapers in standard definition. This requirement has been removed, now allowing downloads without the need to watch ads. Furthermore, ads have been removed from the wallpaper discovery page, and the selection of available art has been expanded.

Despite these positive changes, the issue of pricing remains a sensitive topic. By opting for a monthly payment, users would spend over an additional $90 per year compared to the annual payment. Many comments from followers reflect that the project seems more like a profit-maximization strategy than an effort to provide quality content.

MKBHD has stated in his announcement that his goal is to provide significant value in the app's premium version, although it seems he intends to maintain the current pricing structure. Convincing users that it is worth paying this cost for a wallpaper application poses a considerable challenge.
