Microsoft will remove the Mail and Calendar apps from Windows 11 before the end of the year.

Current users have until December 31 to transfer their applications.

Microsoft has decided to discontinue support for the Mail, Calendar, and People applications later this year. The company has been directing users still using these applications towards the new Outlook app for Windows in recent months and has announced that December 31 will be the deadline for support for the Mail, Calendar, and People applications.

Once these applications lose support, it is warned that users who have not transitioned to the new Outlook app will no longer be able to send or receive emails through Mail and Calendar. Microsoft has been working on the new Outlook app for Windows for several years, and it reached general availability in August.

The web-based Outlook is designed to eventually replace the full desktop version of Outlook. The company plans to notify its business customers 12 months in advance before starting the user migration process from the desktop version of Outlook.

Users with the classic version of Outlook, whether through perpetual licenses or subscription, will continue to receive support at least until 2029. This means that the complete transition of all Outlook users to the new app will take time, starting with the Mail and Calendar applications on Windows and followed by a phase-out for Outlook on Windows.
