Microsoft removes the $1 trial of Xbox Game Pass just before the launch of the new Call of Duty.
You will need to subscribe to a full month of Game Pass to access Black Ops 6.
Microsoft has pulled its $1 trial for Xbox Game Pass, just days before the scheduled release of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 on October 25. This 14-day trial was removed on October 8, preventing users from signing up to play the Black Ops 6 campaign without having to pay for a full month of Game Pass.
The company had previously halted its $1 trial for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass in March of last year, only to reintroduce it with a reduced duration of 14 days instead of a full month. The $1 trial was also briefly suspended just before the release of Starfield in September.
It’s not surprising that this $1 trial has been removed again, especially considering that Microsoft expects Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 to boost its Game Pass subscriber numbers. Reports have indicated that Microsoft has been considering the inclusion of new Call of Duty releases in Game Pass, with certain concerns from some company members about the potential impact this could have on the typical revenues generated from Call of Duty sales. A $1 trial could hurt both sales and subscriptions, particularly since Activision usually sells more than 20 million copies of Call of Duty at an approximate price of $70 each.
Additionally, Microsoft plans to integrate Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, Modern Warfare III, and Warzone into Xbox Cloud Gaming later this month. This will be the first game in the Call of Duty series available at launch for Xbox Cloud Gaming, following Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard last year.
