Microsoft Phone Link will soon make it easier to transition from your old phone.

Enhanced disengagement.

The Windows Phone Link app is experiencing improvements that make it easier to disconnect mobile devices. This tool allows users to sync data, messages, and calls between the desktop operating system and a mobile device. Recently, a new option has been added for users who wish to unlink an iPhone or Android phone directly from the Windows Settings section, under Bluetooth and devices > Mobile Devices.

Currently, managing this action required navigating to the online Microsoft account settings page, which involved several steps and access points. Previously, there was an unlink button within the Phone Link app itself, but it was removed some time ago. This is particularly useful when updating the phone, as it simplifies the process of switching between devices.

Additionally, the Cross Device Experience Host app is integrating the option to easily remove a mobile device from the account, thereby enhancing the user experience. The functionalities offered in Phone Link vary depending on the type of device used, with the best results being achieved with Samsung Galaxy phones.

Another new feature in testing is an informational panel for iPhones similar to the one that already exists for Android devices, accessible from the start menu. These updates are part of a continuous effort to improve Phone Link over the past year. It is still unknown when the new unlinking feature will be available to everyone, but it is likely to arrive soon on Windows.

When using an iPhone alongside a Mac, users gain numerous synchronization and integration features, a high standard that Microsoft aims to achieve with Phone Link on Windows, with more enhancements on the way.
