Microsoft Paint Will Include a Copilot Button.
Copilot is present everywhere today.
Windows Insiders will soon notice the addition of a Copilot icon in another app: Paint. Users on the Canary and Dev channels will start receiving this update, which centralizes AI tools in one location. By clicking the Copilot button on the taskbar, a menu will unfold that includes generative features such as Co-Creator, Image Creator, and Generative Erase. Microsoft has been expanding the presence of the Copilot icon across various areas, from the keyboard to the taskbar, and now Paint joins this list.
Over the past year, Microsoft has been integrating AI-powered image generation tools into Paint. At the end of 2023, Co-Creator, based on DALL-E, was introduced, along with generative fill options that arrived last fall. This entire set of tools will now be consolidated in one place, making it easier to create AI-generated clip art. In fact, it’s likely that a Copilot shortcut in Paint will prove more useful than in Bing.
Additionally, with this update, Windows 11 Insiders will also receive improvements in AI search, which had been enabled in preview a few weeks ago. The new "enhanced search" feature allows users to locate cloud-stored photos using natural language, whereas previously, AI search was limited to local files. When performing a search, cloud files will appear alongside locally stored images. This update is being rolled out to Windows 11 Insiders in the Dev and Beta channels.
