The purchase of a virtual reality headset can be a dilemma, but today, on Cyber Monday, there are irresistible deals. One of the most surprising discounts is on the PlayStation VR2, which typically retails for between $550 and $600 when purchased with the Horizon: Call of the Mountain bundle. However, today it can be snagged for just $350. This price is quite competitive, especially when compared to its rivals. But does this $250 discount mean it’s the best option on the market, or does the Meta Quest 3S remain a viable contender with a less eye-catching offer? Both options are currently two of the best virtual reality headsets available.
The decision between the two headsets wasn’t complicated a few months ago, as the PSVR2 required a connection to the PS5, which favored the Quest 3 as a standalone option. However, Sony recently allowed its headset to connect to a PC using an adapter, transforming the PSVR2 into a much more powerful and versatile device.
Advantages of the PlayStation VR2
Opting for the PlayStation VR2 has its benefits, especially in terms of games. Now that the headset can access virtual reality titles for PC, it includes valuable exclusives like Horizon: Call of the Mountain and Resident Evil, in addition to having a notable library of games available for PS Plus. Apart from its graphical quality, which features an OLED display with a resolution of 2000 x 2040 per eye and smooth tracking of the Sense controllers, the PSVR2 offers a remarkable immersive experience. However, there are concerns about the future support Sony may provide for it, as it seems to have scaled back its focus on developing exclusives for this system.
Advantages of the Meta Quest 3S
On the other hand, the Meta Quest 3S does not present as attractive an offer comparatively, with a base price and a $75 digital gift card incentive with the purchase. While its price of $300 is lower than that of the PSVR2, the major advantage of the Quest 3S is its wireless design and the comfort it provides, being significantly lighter. In terms of exclusives, Meta has shown a strong commitment to creating highly acclaimed titles like Asgard’s Wrath 2 and Batman: Arkham Shadow, which could offer a more satisfying gaming experience in the long run.
Although the PSVR2 has technical advantages, like better screen resolution, the Quest 3S makes up for it with outstanding features and a robust performance. Currently, my recommendation leans towards the Meta Quest 3S, given its lightweight design, standalone capability, and diverse library of games, making it a more accessible option for those looking to enter the world of virtual reality.
Ultimately, the choice will depend on individual needs and preferences. If you’re looking for better visuals and already own a PS5, the PSVR2 might make sense. But if you prefer a more casual and portable approach, the Quest 3S is probably the better choice.
