Meta Quest 3 will include my favorite training app of 2024 to boost your New Year fitness goals.
The launch of Shardfall by Quell is coming to Meta Quest.
As we approach 2025 and the pressures of the typical "New Year, New Me" increase for those who are not fond of jogging or the gym, there is an impressive alternative to conventional fitness methods: Quell, one of the standout training apps of 2024. An exciting announcement is that the gamified routines offered by this app will be available for Meta Quest headsets in January 2025.
For those who missed the launch of Quell, it initially started as a fitness platform for PC. You used the controls to progress through a fantasy adventure game called Shardfall while wearing resistance bands that intensified the experience beyond simple shadow boxing. The high-intensity interval training (HIT) sessions were effective, and Shardfall successfully maintained motivation by contextualizing each action; every punch thrown was not just another exercise, but an attempt to defeat a monster in your path.
Virtual reality players will soon be able to enjoy this experience with a Meta Quest headset, although they will have to forgo the resistance bands unless they choose to purchase them. Shardfall will be launching on Quest as Shardfall: FitQuest VR at a price of $19.99 / £14.99 on Meta.com, which has generated a lot of excitement.
While the Quell hardware system costs $199 / £189, the subscription to access Shardfall (and future game releases) is quite affordable, at a monthly fee of $4.99 / £4.99 or $39.99 / £39.99 per year. This compares favorably to other fitness equipment or gym memberships, although it may be an additional expense that some might hesitate to commit to, given that it will only be used with Quell games.
In contrast, the addition of $19.99 / £14.99 to enjoy Shardfall in VR turns out to be a more accessible option. The combat simulation is captivating, integrating a full-body routine that includes movements like dodging and jumping to avoid attacks and obstacles, as well as sections of jogging between fights that elevate the heart rate.
While losing the resistance bands may reduce the difficulty of the workout, it could make accessing Shardfall easier, which still promises to deliver a solid full-body workout. Personally, I will be eager to try the VR version when it launches, and if you're looking for a more interesting way to kick-start your fitness routine for 2025, I invite you to consider joining this experience.
