Meta introduces the 'Instagram Profile Card': here's how it works.

Attention, new Instagram feature!

Meta has made it easier to share Instagram profiles by introducing customizable virtual business cards, thereby enhancing the connection among users on the platform. Previously, exchanging profiles required sharing the @username, but with the new Profile Cards, users now have an option that displays profile details on one side and a scannable QR code on the other.

How the Instagram Profile Card Works

The Instagram Profile Card is double-sided; one side features a QR code that directs to the profile along with the username, while the reverse includes the profile picture, bio, links, and shared music. Users have the option to customize the background color of the card, and even create a unique background using their own images. In terms of sharing functionality, any user can use the "Share Profile" button located on their profile page.

Instagram has highlighted that this card enables users to connect with others without the need to manually type their username, making it a useful tool for potential collaborations or for showcasing their profile to brands. To share the Profile Card, users simply need to go to the account, tap "Share Profile" on the profile banner, and choose between downloading it to their device or sharing it directly on Instagram and other platforms like X, WhatsApp, Snapchat, and more.

It is important to have the latest version of Instagram installed on Android or iOS devices to customize and share the Profile Card. The cards on @instagram are animated, customizable, and easy to share, allowing new friends to learn more about the person and their interests.

Meta, the parent company of Instagram, has indicated that this functionality is part of a broader initiative aimed at Generation Z users, who view their Instagram profiles as digital resumes. A recent survey revealed that more than half of Generation Z respondents aspire to be influencers, highlighting the importance of tools like Profile Cards for self-promotion and personal branding. Although Instagram has been using QR codes to share accounts since 2018, the new Profile Cards offer a more complete and versatile experience.
