Meater's Pro Duo monitors grill temperature with two smart probes and Wi-Fi connectivity.
The new smart cooking device from Meater includes two probes and replaces the Bluetooth connection with Wi-Fi.
Wireless cooking probes are very useful tools for grilling, as they allow greater freedom of movement without the hassle of tangled cords. Recent products from Meater offer the ability to monitor both food temperatures and the grill's ambient temperature simultaneously. While their utility is unquestionable, it is common to need more than one probe for certain tasks. For example, it is necessary to cook steaks at different temperatures or accurately monitor the breast and thigh of a turkey on Thanksgiving.
Meater already offers a four-probe option in its Pro XL model, although its price of $349.95 may be excessive for some home cooks. In response, the company, which is owned by Traeger, has launched the Meater Pro Duo, a dual-probe model that uses Wi-Fi instead of Bluetooth, thus expanding its wireless range. The charger connects to the home network and then to Meater Cloud, allowing users to monitor temperatures from anywhere using a mobile phone. Additionally, this base has its own battery that charges via USB-C, eliminating the need to replace batteries. According to Meater, fully charged probes can last up to 24 hours, which is more than sufficient even for long cooks like brisket. In an emergency, a five-minute charge provides two hours of use.
The probes, made of stainless steel, have six temperature sensors (five internal and one ambient), allowing them to withstand extreme temperatures of up to 1000 degrees Fahrenheit. The internal sensors are effective up to 221 degrees Fahrenheit and have a precision of half a degree. Like previous Meater models, these probes are water-resistant, making them suitable for deep frying and sous vide techniques, and they are also dishwasher safe.
The Pro Duo transmits cooking data to the Meater app, allowing users to track progress on their phone. The platform offers various cooking profiles based on the food being prepared and a guided cooking system that walks users through the process step by step. It also features an estimation algorithm that calculates cooking time, including resting time.
The Meater Pro Duo is now available for pre-order at a price of $199.95 on the company's website, with shipments scheduled to begin on November 15.
