"Marvel Snap is banned, just like TikTok."

La traducción de "Desempolvado" al inglés es "Dusted Off."

The recent law aimed at divesting or banning apps linked to ByteDance has affected not only TikTok but also other popular applications, such as the card game Marvel Snap. This game, which takes place in the Marvel universe, suddenly became inaccessible on Saturday night, surprising players who were unaware of its connection to ByteDance.

The company behind Marvel Snap is Second Dinner, based in California, but its publishing is handled by Nuverse, a ByteDance-owned company, which obliges it to comply with the same shutdown order. In a statement, Second Dinner expressed its surprise at the situation and stated that "Marvel Snap is not going away. We are actively and diligently working to get the game back up and running as soon as possible and will share updates as we have more information."

On the eve of January 19, 2025, the game was removed from the App Store for iPad and iPhone devices, as well as from Google Play for Android users. Meanwhile, on PC, Marvel Snap is still available on Steam, although many users are reporting issues accessing their accounts after being logged out.

An in-game message informs players: "Sorry, Marvel Snap is not available at this time. A law has been enacted banning Marvel Snap in the U.S. Unfortunately, this means you cannot use Marvel Snap for now. Rest assured, we are working to restore our service in the U.S. Please stay tuned!"

It is worth mentioning that, unlike TikTok, no clear notice was provided to players regarding the impact of the new legislation, which has led many not to realize the relationship between the game and ByteDance, even those who continued making in-game purchases expecting to keep playing. Other ByteDance apps, such as Lemon8 and CapCut, have also quickly disappeared from app stores. The impact on apps linked to ByteDance appears varied and could take time to fully remove. The Lark app, which offers a collaboration platform similar to Slack, was initially available but has now been taken down. However, other games published by Nuverse, such as Earth: Revival - Deep Underground and Ragnarok X: 3rd Anniversary, are still accessible on the App Store at the time of writing, shortly after midnight on the 19th.

Update, January 19: Reports have emerged that Marvel Snap players on PC are unable to log in, along with a statement from the game's developer, Second Dinner.
