The Sims fans are divided after the leak of details about EA's project Rene.
Recently, a leak has emerged showing images and gameplay footage of Project Rene, the new project in the The Sims series, which has generated multiple comments among fans of the franchise.
EA Maxis has maintained a low profile regarding Project Rene, a new multiplayer title in The Sims series that was initially thought to be The Sims 5. However, a recent leak has generated dissatisfaction among fans by revealing visual aspects of the game. This information comes from a Reddit user who shared images and the map of an earlier version of the game on PC. EA has confirmed that Project Rene will focus on the multiplayer mode, although it should be noted that the leaked data corresponds to a playtest on mobile devices that covers only a small part of the title, suggesting that elements may change.
Still in the early stages of development, the shared images likely do not reflect the final appearance of the game but help players understand what EA Maxis is working on regarding this multiplayer Sims spin-off. During the testing session, participants were unable to create a Sim, but they could choose from different outfits and Sim presets, which led to criticism on social platforms. Some users have compared the graphics to clay figures, describing the art style as "the ugliest I have seen in a game."
Additionally, the leak includes descriptions from Google Play Store about something called "The Sims Labs: The Hub," which is believed to be related to Project Rene. According to these descriptions, players will be able to explore a Parisian neighborhood in a multiplayer environment, obtain new outfits by working in a café or completing missions to earn in-game currency, and discover collectible secrets along the way. Although elements like a building mode were not present in this test, players could roam the city and complete different missions.
EA Maxis is expanding the reach of The Sims universe with several titles that will retain the name but offer different types of gameplay. In a recent post, EA expressed interest in exploring "cozy games" and "narrative mobile games." It was also confirmed that updates will continue to be implemented for The Sims 4, which is expected to evolve as a continuous service title, while experimenting with multiplayer features.
