Focal's Bluetooth speakers represent an impressive technological advancement.

Describing the Focal Diva Utopia simply as a "wireless speaker system" would be as inappropriate as referring to a Ferrari Enzo simply as a car.

Calling the Focal Utopia Diva simply "wireless speakers" is a major simplification, akin to describing a Ferrari Enzo as "a sports car." These impressive floor-standing speakers, priced at $39,999 and standing 47 inches tall, incorporate advanced technology. The speakers communicate with each other via an ultra-wideband (UWB) wireless connection, enabling high-resolution, lossless audio transmission up to 24 bits/96 kHz, with nearly imperceptible latency. Those interested in purchasing them can do so starting October 2 at Focal Powered By Naim boutiques.

The UWB system is notable for its high data speeds, which can exceed 1 Gbps, although it is generally effective only at short distances. Focal claims that its connection is stable up to 10 meters (approximately 32 feet), which is sufficient for maintaining adequate stereo separation, recommending at least 5 meters between the speakers. While the connection can cover greater distances, it is crucial to maintain a clear line of sight to avoid interference. Focal is not a pioneer in using UWB in wireless speakers, as Sonus Faber previously implemented it in its $3,999 Duetto model, launched in 2023.

For those who prefer a wired connection, Focal includes a 5-meter (16.4 feet) high-resolution cable, allowing for transmission quality of 24 bits/192 kHz, equivalent to the maximum quality allowed for high-resolution audio tracks on Apple Music. Although the audio is transmitted wirelessly, the speakers must be connected to a power source; each has three class AB amplifiers that deliver a combined power of 400 watts. This power drives a 27 mm beryllium tweeter, a 6.5-inch midrange driver, and four 6.5-inch woofers in a push-pull configuration.

The side panels of the Utopia Diva are covered with felt, a polyester material certified by OEKO-TEX, which not only adds an aesthetic touch but also enhances speaker performance due to its insulating properties. At the back of the main speaker, there are connectors for analog RCA stereo, optical digital, USB, and HDMI ARC/eARC, providing multiple options for music sources. Additionally, the speakers are compatible with the Focal & Naim app, which offers access to settings and supports services like Tidal and Qobuz. They can also be controlled via voice assistants and various home automation platforms.

If one wishes to play music directly from a phone, the speakers support streaming via Apple AirPlay 2, Google Cast, Universal Plug’n’Play (UPnP), or Bluetooth 5.3 with support for aptX Adaptive. The digital brain of the Utopia Diva houses a SHARC ADSP21563 DSP chip, which handles real-time processing of functions such as active crossover and room equalization, allowing compatibility with various audio formats, including WAV, FLAC, MP3, and DSD.

Upon opening the bulky packaging, you will find the remote control, the high-resolution cable, and eight spikes that provide proper isolation on the floor where they are installed.
