LG unveils an expandable display that can increase its size by 50 percent.

Acquire a 12-inch screen and enlarge it to measure 18 inches. Profit?

LG has introduced an elastic display that can expand up to 50% beyond its original size, as recently announced. This innovative product allows transformations in its shape, meaning it can be stretched, bent, or twisted without suffering damage. Thanks to the use of an extremely tiny micro-LED light source, measuring up to 40 micrometers, its durability has been enhanced, allowing the device to be stretched more than 10,000 times.

The company has showcased a prototype that starts with a 12-inch screen and can expand up to 18 inches. This is not just a generic display, but features a true RGB display with a resolution of 100 pixels per inch. While it is not the first time LG has presented this type of technology, the new prototype has a stretching capability of between 20% and 50% more than what was shown in 2022.

The technology will not hit the market immediately, as its application is expected in specific sectors that require displays that can adjust to different shapes and sizes. LG envisions extensive use in industries such as fashion, wearables, and mobility. For now, it has only been presented as a visually interesting concept.

Examples have been provided of how it could function in real-world scenarios. In a brief video, the display overlays a three-dimensional, interactive automotive interface that changes shape based on user interaction. However, there is still no information on when this technology will be seen in everyday use.
