Leak: Valve develops a second Steam Controller and a 'Roy' for its Deckard device.

Tears in the rain, Roy, not the Roy from Fire Emblem.

Valve has shown interest in developing a successor to its popular Steam Controller, known for its highly customizable buttons and touchpads that served as the foundation for the creation of the Steam Deck. Recently, an analyst specializing in the company, Brad Lynch, reported that the Steam Controller 2, codenamed “Ibex,” is in the process of mass production. But this isn’t the only controller Valve is preparing.

Lynch also mentioned a new wand-type controller called “Roy,” linked to rumors about a possible virtual reality headset “Deckard” from Valve. This device could position itself as a more affordable and wireless alternative to the already old Valve Index. According to the information obtained, the “Roy” controller is designed for mass production and could have enough buttons to function as a Steam controller when not used in a virtual reality setting. Unlike the Index controllers, “Roy” would include a D-pad, bumpers, and a full set of ABXY buttons, making traditional gaming easier.

Valve is expected to unveil the new Deckard headset alongside the “Roy” controllers. Speculation also suggests that the headset could incorporate an Arm chip, based on previous rumors. However, Valve has not made any official announcements regarding this, as the company typically waits until it has a nearly finished product before making a surprise presentation.

Additionally, the company has collaborated with Hori to launch an officially licensed gamepad that will arrive in the U.S., although this is not considered a true successor to the Steam Controller. In a cultural nod, the name “Roy” references the famous line about tears in the rain, adding an interesting layer to this new controller.
