Ecobee is introducing a new entry-level smart thermostat priced at $129.99. The Smart Thermostat Essential features a color touchscreen and is compatible with Amazon Alexa, Apple Home, and Google Assistant. Like other Ecobee smart thermostats, the Essential model adjusts the home's temperature according to the schedule you set, allowing for energy savings while you are away. Additionally, it learns how long it takes to heat or cool the space, ensuring that the optimal temperature is reached just in time for your arrival.
This thermostat can be paired with the company's SmartSensors, allowing for temperature optimization in specific rooms. The device is controllable via the Ecobee app and is compatible with most conventional HVAC systems and heat pumps, although it is not compatible with HVAC accessories or multi-speed fan systems.
The Essential will replace the Ecobee3 Lite, which currently retails for $150, and it will launch in March 2025. Its more affordable price positions it as a direct competitor to the basic Google Nest thermostat, which also has a similar cost. However, the Nest device operates with the Matter standard, an area where Ecobee has yet to make progress, despite previously indicating its intention to adopt it.
