"Jared Hess, director of the Minecraft movie, denies using AI to enhance his adaptation of the popular Mojang game."

Exclusive: "The human experience is fundamental to all artistic expressions."

The director of A Minecraft Movie, Jared Hess, has stated that no artificial intelligence (AI) was used at any stage of the film's development. In an interview ahead of the film's release, scheduled for April 4, Hess emphasized that, despite the growing influence of AI in the entertainment industry, its use was not applied in the creation of his project. He assured that human artists were the ones who contributed their unmatched creativity, highlighting that the originality of creators is difficult to replicate by any technology.

Hess expressed his hope that AI would be used as a tool, not as a shortcut in the creative process. He acknowledged that AI is bound to have an impact on all aspects of life, including entertainment, but emphasized the importance of human experience in art, which cannot be replaced. Although AI is capable of mimicking, Hess stressed that he will always seek the human connection in artistic work.

In the context of production, AI has increased its presence in Hollywood over the past year, with controversial applications in Oscar-nominated films and a diverse use in streaming services. Hess hopes that the implementation of AI is done correctly, without attempting to replace creativity and human work.

On the other hand, while the film did not incorporate AI, other technologies were used during its production. Hess mentioned that he experimented with virtual reality (VR) but found the technology too uncomfortable. Thus, he preferred to work traditionally with a controller on an Xbox console. He explained that the production used a virtual art department based on Unreal Engine, which allowed the team to interact with Minecraft environments during their filming process.
