It is reported that OpenAI plans to launch an artificial intelligence agent early next year.

OpenAI is preparing to launch its first autonomous agent.

OpenAI is in the preparation phase to launch an autonomous artificial intelligence agent, known as "Operator," which will have the capability to control computers and perform tasks independently. This new development is expected to be showcased as a preview for research and as a tool for developers in January. This initiative intensifies the competition among major tech companies that are also in the race to develop artificial intelligence agents. Recently, Anthropic introduced a "computer use" feature, while it is reported that Google is working on its own version, which could be launched in December.

Although it has not been specified when "Operator" will be released to the general public, its development represents a significant shift towards artificial intelligence systems that not only process text and images but can also actively interact with computer interfaces. In a Q&A forum on Reddit a few weeks ago, OpenAI's CEO, Sam Altman, mentioned that the company will continue optimizing its models. He also indicated that the next big innovation would be these autonomous agents. Meanwhile, Kevin Weil, OpenAI's product director, expressed that 2025 could be the year when systems of this kind become common in the market.

Facing increasing pressure to monetize their costly models, many artificial intelligence labs are looking to autonomous agents as their next big product, hoping that this ChatGPT-level innovation will justify the significant investments made in artificial intelligence development.
