It is expected that Sony will soon announce its first new full-frame camera of 2024: here's what it could be.

Could Sony's quietest year end with a major event?

Sony has had a surprisingly quiet year in the camera sector, especially for a brand recognized in the industry. Since the beginning of 2024, only one new mirrorless camera has been announced, the Sony ZV-E10 II, which, while boasting a 26 MP APS-C sensor and 4K recording capabilities, has not generated much excitement among brand followers, as it is an update of an existing model and is marketed below $1,000.

Recently, there have been rumors regarding a possible announcement of a new full-frame camera by Sony, which could occur at the end of November. This expectation, if confirmed, suggests that there may be more than one camera and a new lens launched in the coming months. However, it is important to note that previous rumors about launches did not materialize, which necessitates taking this information with caution.

Among the cameras that could be presented, the potential arrival of a successor to the Sony Alpha A1 is mentioned, an iconic model in Sony's mirrorless line-up. This new device could be called the Sony A1 II. There are also rumors about the Sony A7 V, whose upgrade would enhance a model that has already performed well in the market, although it has recently been surpassed by competitors such as the Nikon Z6 III.

The A1, launched in March 2021, and the A7 IV, introduced in December of the same year, are candidates for an upgrade, although it cannot be taken for granted that successors will be developed. The A9 series is also part of the conversation, especially following the debut of the Sony A9 III, a high-performance camera aimed at professionals working in fields such as sports and wildlife, which was released at the end of 2023.

Regarding updates, Sony enthusiasts are particularly interested in the possible appearance of the A7 V, which could restore the prestige of the A7 series by surpassing the limitations of its current competitors. Additionally, there are rumors about a new lens, the Sony FE 24-70mm F2 GM, which would be groundbreaking by offering a constant F2 aperture, surpassing the competition in the 24-70mm range.

As November approaches, anticipation grows regarding which model will be announced and what innovations it will bring, particularly the possible A1 II and its relationship with the A9 III.
