It is claimed that Yellowjackets has 'copied' its concept from a thriller movie available to watch on Tubi.
Yellowjackets has discovered a new threat.
Showtime is facing a lawsuit for copyright infringement related to its popular series Yellowjackets. The accusation stems from the 2015 survival thriller film, Eden, which is alleged to have been copied in numerous aspects. The lawsuit, filed on November 14 in a federal court in New York, claims that Yellowjackets “borrows heavily from Eden to the point of being substantially similar.”
According to legal documents, it is stated that by comparing the plots, setting, pacing, and characters of both works, significant similarities are evident. It is alleged that many key elements of Yellowjackets are copied from Eden, which could seriously jeopardize the future of the series.
Both stories revolve around soccer teams that, after a plane crash, are forced to adopt extreme behaviors for survival, including cannibalism. Yellowjackets tells the story of a girls' high school team from New Jersey that crashes in the Canadian wilderness in 1996, while Eden focuses on a male U.S. team facing a similar situation on a deserted island.
In addition to the plot elements, the lawsuit highlights that both in Yellowjackets and Eden, the characters must fight for survival under extreme conditions and the psychological strain of isolation, leading to tensions, alliances, and the revelation of dark secrets that alter the morality of their decisions.
Yellowjackets has been remarkably successful since its premiere in 2021, becoming Showtime's most prominent original series in years. However, if the lawsuit results in a loss for the network, it could have a significant impact on the future development of the series.
