Introducing the first 240W USB-PD charger now available for purchase.
Now, you just need a laptop that is compatible with 240W.
A USB-C charger that finally meets the promised power specifications for high-performance laptops, reaching a maximum rate of 240W, is now available. While it’s unlikely that you will need this charger or have a device that can take advantage of its full power, it has hit the market in case you want to prepare your office for the future.
The ADP-240KB charger from Delta Electronics is an alternating current power supply that supports the highest possible charging speeds under the USB-C Power Delivery (USB-PD) standard. It can be purchased through the U.S. components distributor Mouser Electronics for $126.37, plus shipping costs, although you can get it at a lower price if you buy at least 10 units. This desktop power adapter comes in a simple black brick design and features a standard three-prong alternating current input port (power cable not included).
Delta may not be a household name for many, but you likely already own some product manufactured by this company. They act as an Original Design Manufacturer (ODM), meaning they produce products that are purchased by an OEM for rebranding. In Delta's case, they produce power supplies, fans, and other components for computer manufacturers like Dell or Lenovo. The charger for your laptop may carry the OEM brand, but it was likely made by an ODM.
Last year, Framework CEO Nirav Patel mentioned that they are preparing high-spec USB-PD 3.1 adapters. The charger for the Framework Laptop 16 supports up to 180W, while Apple’s MacBook Pro reaches a maximum of 140W using a MagSafe charging cable. It has been a long wait, and before the 240W chargers arrived, we already had some testers circulating.
