If you used Hertz, it is advisable to monitor your credit.

By the end of 2024, a cyber attack revealed data from an indeterminate number of customers.

Hertz has informed its customers about a security incident that could compromise their personal information. According to the company, the issue occurred between October and December 2024, and it was confirmed on February 10 when it was revealed that "data was acquired by an unauthorized third party." The review of the affected data was completed on April 2, 2025.

The data that may have been exposed includes personal information such as names, contact details, dates of birth, credit card information, and driver's license numbers. Additionally, a very small number of individuals may have had their information related to Social Security, passports, or Medicare or Medicaid IDs leaked.

Despite the magnitude of the incident, Hertz stated that it has not received reports of misuse of personal information in connection with this event. However, the company advises potentially affected customers to remain vigilant against possible fraud by reviewing their account statements and monitoring free credit reports for unauthorized activities.

It is crucial to maintain the security of personal data in a digital environment where vulnerabilities are common. While it is challenging to protect information once it is in the hands of other companies, users can implement security measures, such as using VPNs and good browsing practices, to safeguard their information online.
