If you have a Samsung TV, you'll be happy to know that Disney Plus will start streaming series and movies in HDR10+.
Disney joins Prime Video and Apple TV Plus by offering streaming in HDR10+.
Disney Plus will incorporate HDR10+ streaming capability for movies and series in the future, as announced at a press conference at CES 2025. While no exact launch date has been specified, this new option joins the HDR format compatibility already offered by other major services like Prime Video and Apple TV Plus.
This HDR10+ format is appreciated for its ability to deliver more dynamic, brighter images with greater contrast compared to SDR and HDR10 formats. Unlike Dolby Vision, which is not compatible with Samsung TVs, HDR10+ will allow owners of these devices to enjoy superior picture quality on Disney Plus content.
The arrival of HDR10+ support is excellent news for Samsung TV owners, who previously could only access Dolby Vision technology. With this new integration, prominent Samsung models will be better equipped to provide an optimal viewing experience when watching Disney Plus programs.
In addition to Samsung, brands like Hisense, TCL, Panasonic, and Philips also offer TV models that support both HDR10+ and Dolby Vision. However, LG and Sony have exclusively chosen to support Dolby Vision, omitting HDR10+ from their televisions, even in their high-end models.
Disney Plus's decision to include HDR10+ is favorable for Samsung users, as it broadens their options for enjoying high-definition content with enhanced quality. This development raises expectations that other streaming services, such as Netflix and Max, may also consider joining this trend, although this remains to be seen.
