"I tried the new custom sound mode of the LG C5 OLED TV and it's the best AI feature I've seen so far."
I'm not interested in custom visuals, but audio clarity is a different matter.
LG has decided to innovate once again with its televisions by adding a "Personalized Sound Wizard" mode for 2025. This development follows the introduction of a similar mode for images, which, although interesting, was not well received due to the unsatisfactory results it offered.
The new "Personalized Sound Wizard" aims to address the complexity of auditory perception, which can vary significantly among individuals. While vision may be more uniform in terms of what is considered 'correct' for cinema, hearing presents unique nuances: some people struggle to catch dialogue amidst a mix of sounds or may be unaware of their own hearing loss. This is where the new sound mode could prove useful, as it will allow for audio adjustments that focus, for example, on voices and high-frequency sounds or enhance lower tones.
The process is straightforward: the user will listen to four variations of the same audio clip and can select the ones they prefer. Based on these choices, a personalized sound profile will be generated and associated with their user account on the LG television. Furthermore, the television will recognize different users through voice commands, allowing each person to have their own sound profile, contributing to a more personalized experience.
Although the impact of these sound profiles seems significant, a more detailed analysis will be required to assess their effectiveness under normal usage conditions. The concept behind this feature showcases the potential of machine learning in consumer devices, positioning it as a valuable tool to enhance accessibility and the auditory experience at home.
The feature will be available on televisions running webOS 25, including models like the LG C5, G5, and B5, as well as the newly enhanced QNED range. There are plans to bring this update to older models, although it is still unknown whether it will include this new feature.
