I took a three-day road trip in the Polestar 4 without rear windows: the reasons behind this decision, both positive and negative.

Advantages and disadvantages of removing the rear window.

Polestar, the Swedish electric car brand, has launched its new model, the Polestar 4, which first arrived in Europe and then in Australia. This vehicle is significantly different from its predecessor, the Polestar 2, which was considered one of the best electric cars of 2022. Despite having a similar exterior design, the Polestar 4 features an SUV-coupe aesthetic that sets it apart on the streets and has been developed on a platform exclusively for electric vehicles, giving it an air of luxury.

The Polestar 4 makes a notable shift towards a more premium approach, moving away from direct competition with Tesla and seeking inspiration from brands like Porsche. While it seems that Polestar's strategy has adapted, it now aims to compete more directly with models like the Tesla Model Y.

In terms of driving experience, the Polestar 4 offers exceptional handling, with great range and a premium user interface that surpasses those of traditional brands like BMW and Audi. The integration of the Android Automotive operating system stands out for its ease of use and intuitive design, compared to Tesla's system.

An interesting feature of the Polestar 4 is the lack of a rear window, which has sparked mixed opinions. While this design choice allows for a large glass roof and provides better lighting for the rear seats, it introduces a reliance on a camera system that could pose problems in case of technical failures. However, the car is equipped with an effective 360-degree camera, making parking easier.

In terms of specifications, the Polestar 4 is available in single and dual long-range motor versions, with a range varying from 300 to 620 kilometers, and a fast-charging capacity of up to 200 kW. The interior of the vehicle feels spacious and luxurious, with significant improvements in rear seat access and comfort.

Beyond being a functional electric car, the Polestar 4 includes innovations such as a holographic display screen and ambient lighting options that change according to the planets of the solar system. This attention to detail and customization in the driving experience reinforces Polestar's ambition to position itself as a premium competitor in the electric vehicle market.

However, the design presents some practical drawbacks, such as the difficulty of loading bulky items due to the shape of the trunk and the controversy surrounding the use of a powered charging door that can be problematic in certain situations.

In summary, while the Polestar 4 has areas for improvement, it meets the expectations of a luxury electric vehicle and positions itself as a serious contender in the growing electric car market.
