I have tested Can-Am's new electric motorcycles, and they are the best option so far for moving away from polluting bikes.

Elegant, stylish, fun... although it is still a bit expensive.

BRP, known for its recreational vehicles, has decided to revive its two-wheeled history with a new line of electric motorcycles. This Canadian company, which previously operated under the name Bombardier, has been famous for its off-road bikes under the Can-Am brand and for its innovative snow machines, Ski-Doo. Over the years, they have ventured into various terrains, including boats and three-wheeled vehicles, establishing themselves as a major provider of off-road experiences.

The new series of Can-Am electric motorcycles includes two models: the Pulse, designed for urban use and with an agile appearance, and the Origin, which is more robust and suitable for rough terrain. Both models incorporate a fully liquid-cooled propulsion system, representing an innovation in the industry. They also feature a 10.25-inch infotainment system compatible with Apple CarPlay, offering extensive options for those seeking an intuitive and fun riding experience.

These motorcycles are set to launch in Canada, North America, and much of Europe, aiming to provide an electric solution that, although not the most economical on the market, is more accessible than other available options. Prices start at $13,999 for the Pulse model and rise to $14,499 for the Origin. Production of both bikes will begin in November, with deliveries scheduled for next year.

The Pulse model stands out for its low seat height and agile handling, making it an ideal option for urban commuting and weekend rides. The Origin, on the other hand, is designed for more challenging terrains, although its on-road performance is a bit less comfortable.

Both motorcycles use an 8.9 kWh battery available in two motor options: 11 kW and 35 kW, achieving up to 47 horsepower. While the lower-powered model may seem limited, it actually offers the same top speed and riding experience as its more powerful counterpart, making it appealing to new riders or those who do not wish to obtain a full license.

The 10.25-inch infotainment system allows for operation with gloves and provides information about speed and remaining range, as well as access to riding modes and the Apple CarPlay interface. Although system customization could be improved, especially regarding the placement of certain buttons, the overall experience is functional.

One of the standout features of the Pulse and the Origin is their regenerative braking system, which allows riders to maximize range during deceleration. This enables them to extend battery life when descending hills, making the riding experience not only interesting but also efficient.

As competition in the electric motorcycle market intensifies, with manufacturers facing financial difficulties, BRP appears well-positioned with its network of dealers and its ability to share technologies across its products. Despite the inherent challenges of the market, the focus on accessible models for new riders could be the key to Can-Am's success in this exciting new era.
