I don't usually watch much anime, but I'm surprised that Netflix canceled Scott Pilgrim Takes Off.

Scott Pilgrim has stopped taking off.

Scott Pilgrim Takes Off has been canceled by Netflix after just one season. The news was confirmed by the series creator, Bryan Lee O'Malley, through his social media. While the cancellation may surprise some, the series was originally conceived as a single-season project, making the decision not entirely unexpected.

The project was announced by Netflix in 2022 as an anime adaptation of O'Malley's graphic novels, featuring the return of the cast from the live-action film for this new animated format. The creation generated mixed reviews among Scott Pilgrim fans, including comments from Tom Power, a prominent entertainment reporter, who expressed doubts about the series initially.

Despite receiving fairly positive reviews, with a 96% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, the series will not continue. In a recent message, O'Malley thanked the cast and crew for their efforts and reiterated that from the beginning, it was planned for the series to have only one season, which complicated any potential continuation.

In line with other cancellations, Netflix has also seen the loss of other animated programs, such as Scavengers Reign, alongside several comedies and series throughout October. The platform continues to accumulate cancellations, notably Unstable and That '90s Show, leaving many subscribers disappointed with some of these decisions.

Despite these cancellations, Netflix still hosts a good variety of animated content, including hits like Arcane and Avatar: The Last Airbender, which remain popular among viewers.
