The arrival of the Hyundai Ioniq 9, the highly anticipated electric SUV, is finally in sight after several months of speculation and uncertainty. This model is positioned as a direct competitor to the Kia EV9 and is shaping up to be an attractive option for those looking for a larger electric vehicle at a price lower than that of the Rivian R1S. Although it is larger than the Tesla Model Y, it is expected to be slightly more expensive. The comparison between these two models reveals notable differences in areas such as performance, range, and charging time.

Design

The design differences between the Hyundai Ioniq 9 and the Tesla Model Y are striking, which could influence purchasing decisions. The Ioniq 9 presents itself as a robust, squared SUV, with an elegant look thanks to its curved roof. The front is distinguished by a long light bar divided into blocks, giving it a unique visual signature. At the rear, pixel-shaped lights surround the trunk. With dimensions of 199.2 inches in length, 78 inches in width, and 70.5 inches in height, the Ioniq 9 is clearly more substantial.

On the other hand, while the Tesla Model Y has been on the market for some time and its design might be considered somewhat dated, it remains an attractive and modern vehicle. With its curved lines and characteristic Tesla aesthetics, it measures 187 inches in length, 76 inches in width, and 64 inches in height. Regarding pricing, the Tesla Model Y is already available starting at $44,900, while the Ioniq 9, although announced, will not be on sale until early 2025 and is expected to be priced similarly to the Kia EV9, starting at around $55,000. Due to being more affordable and available, the Model Y wins this category.
