Humane seeks to integrate AI Pin software into your phone, car, and smart speaker.
More enthusiasm surrounding artificial intelligence.
Humane, the company behind the AI Pin, intends for other companies to develop devices and gadgets based on its operating system, CosmOS. Recently, they released a video suggesting that CosmOS is already functioning on various platforms such as a car, a television, a smart speaker, and a phone. However, it’s important to note that, according to the fine print provided by Humane, the video is only "for illustrative purposes," showing "functional prototypes" and some "simulated experiences," indicating that all "designs, features, and specifications" could change. Therefore, it should not be taken literally.
In one of the sequences of the video, a person is seen interacting with CosmOS from their car (where the logo on the steering wheel is blurred) to increase heating in their home and coordinate the arrival of visitors. They also ask their (blurred) smart speaker about a guacamole recipe and check with the television on how many goals a soccer player on screen has scored. Additionally, CosmOS reads an email on the user's mobile device and responds to a question about their availability to attend a meeting.
Despite the recent excitement surrounding artificial intelligence, particularly regarding digital agents, the examples shown in the video should not be surprising. Humane seeks to demonstrate that CosmOS has advanced capabilities similar to those of an agent and wants companies to consider it as a potential support for their devices. However, it is relevant to note that the elements presented in the video are not Humane products, as the company has not promised to develop them; rather, it is creating an SDK for others to do so.
While the CosmOS SDK is not yet available to the public—the company’s website mentions that it will be "coming soon"—there is an option to "sign up to build with us," which leads to a form to fill out. So far, Humane has not announced partnerships with other companies to create devices using CosmOS, and the blurred logos on the car and speaker suggest that they may not have made much progress in that regard. Additional examples have been requested from Humane.
After the lack of success of the AI Pin, it is possible that Humane is exploring new business lines. In August, it was reported that daily returns of the device exceeded sales. The AI Pin was launched in April, and only six months later, the company reduced its price. Earlier this year, it was mentioned that Humane was in discussions to find a buyer, with HP being a potential interested party at one point.
