Honda anticipates the presentation of two new Zero electric prototypes.
Saloon and Hub-Space.
Honda has revealed that it will showcase its first prototypes of the Honda Zero series during the upcoming Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, scheduled for January. Additionally, the company will present its innovative operating system exclusive to this new line of electric vehicles.
The Honda Zero series was announced at CES 2024, characterized as a "new global series of electric vehicles" with a focus on being "thinner" and featuring a futuristic design compared to current SUVs and electric trucks. This initiative is built on three fundamental principles: "slim," "light," and "wise." Honda plans to leverage its experience gained in Formula 1 and its work in robotics to propose a new repertoire of cars that truly represent the future of mobility.
At the upcoming event, the brand will provide more details about its "wise" principle, which will include advancements in automated driving technologies and an overview of its system-on-a-chip that will support the Honda Zero vehicles. Teaser images display the rear profiles of the two concepts that already debuted this year: the Saloon and the Space-Hub. The Saloon features a pronounced fastback shape with rectangular lights at the front and rear reminiscent of an old Black & Decker vacuum cleaner. Meanwhile, the Space-Hub has a minivan-like design, with minimal overhangs and rear lights that evoke the electric delivery vans from Rivian for Amazon.
During the year, a collaborator had the opportunity to test a CR-V prototype equipped with Honda Zero technology in Japan, highlighting a more agile and lighter driving experience compared to the Honda Prologue model. The new Honda Zero platform offers handling and acceleration similar to other existing electric vehicles, with a low center of gravity that improves stability in turns. In a straight-line speed test, the prototype managed to reach 110 km/h in a short distance, demonstrating the quickness and responsiveness of the powertrain.
There is great anticipation for the presentation of more advanced versions of the Saloon and the Space-Hub, particularly given Honda's context of working on solid-state batteries, collaborating with Sony on the EV Afeela, and considering a potential merger with Nissan.
