Hinge Introduces AI-Powered Feedback Feature to Enhance User Profile Writing.
If you provide a superficial response to a request, the artificial intelligence will suggest that you "Dive a little deeper."
Today, the dating app Hinge has introduced a new feature called Prompt Feedback, which uses artificial intelligence to help users create more original responses to the platform's signature prompts. This initiative adds to recent trends in dating apps, where others like Grindr and Bumble have also implemented AI-related features such as a virtual "wingman" and AI-generated icebreakers, respectively.
Prompt Feedback does not provide specific answers or suggest phrases; instead, it evaluates users' responses on three levels: "Great answer," which indicates that the answer is good; "Try a small change," which encourages making adjustments; and "Dig a little deeper," which suggests adding more details to the response. This feedback is private and is displayed while users edit their prompts on their profile, allowing them to decide whether to modify their answer or keep it as is.
The prompt function on Hinge is recognized as one of its most distinctive features, as "likes" on responses have a 47% higher chance of resulting in a date than "likes" on photos. However, 63% of users surveyed by Hinge indicated that they struggle with knowing what to include in their profiles, leading to generic and cliché responses.
Logan Ury, Hinge's Director of Relationship Science, commented that typical responses, such as "pineapple on pizza" or "excessive competitiveness," fail to showcase the individuality and creativity needed to spark meaningful conversations. Encouraging users to express their quirks and authentic personality details is key to helping potential matches get to know the real user.
Last year, Hinge's founder and CEO, Justin McLeod, acknowledged that many young people feel fatigued with dating apps and that his team is working on solutions to enhance this experience. Recently, Hinge implemented a limit on unanswered messages to foster more intentional conversations between matches. With Prompt Feedback, the app aims to help users tired of the online dating experience make the most of their interactions.
McLeod emphasized that this new feature seeks to provide personalized coaching at a critical moment for those looking to make a good impression on their profiles, using years of research to help users identify traits that allow them to discover compatibility and thus facilitate dating.
