It has been four months since their release, and there hasn't been a single day when I haven't used the Sonos Ace headphones.
I have always been a fan of earbuds, but now the Sonos Ace headphones have changed my mind.
The arrival of Sonos’ Ace headphones has generated significant interest, especially as it marks the renowned audio brand's first foray into the world of headphones. Despite recent app issues that have affected some users, my appreciation for Sonos remained. However, my experience with over-ear headphones has not been entirely positive, as they tend to become uncomfortable after prolonged use, generating heat in my ears and affecting my hairstyle, which may seem superficial but matters to me.
My perception of over-ear headphones changed dramatically after trying the Aces at an exclusive event in Sydney, Australia. Since then, I've been using them daily for four months. Their lightweight construction, combined with the soft memory foam and the use of vegan leather, provides a level of comfort I have never experienced before.
One of the standout features of the Aces is their hinge mechanism, which allows the ear cups to adjust both vertically and horizontally. This results in a snug and comfortable fit that accommodates various face shapes, something that other models may not offer in the same way. While there are models like the AirPods Max that also have an adjustable design, they are significantly heavier, which can be uncomfortable for prolonged sessions.
Another advantage of the Aces is their slim profile. Unlike other headphones that often have large and bulky ear cups, Sonos’ design presents a more streamlined and modern appearance. This design, along with the soft white finish, contributes to a premium aesthetic that doesn’t feel overly “techy.”
In terms of control, the Aces opt for physical buttons rather than touch gestures. This approach allows for multiple functions to be managed with a single button, from playing and pausing music to adjusting the volume and answering calls. This ease of use is a relief in a market where touch interactions often prove frustrating.
While the Aces may not have the best sound quality compared to other similarly priced models, such as the Sony WH-1000XM5, I have enjoyed their performance. They deliver excellent bass range and effective noise cancellation, even in noisy environments. They especially shine in their ability to connect to Sonos' current soundbars, allowing for an easy transition of audio from the TV to the headphones, providing an immersive acoustic experience that truly stands out.
Ultimately, while the Sonos Aces may not be regarded as the headphones with the best sound quality on the market, their exceptional comfort makes them a worthy consideration. For me, the sound-comfort experience they provide makes them worth it, despite not being the top performers in every aspect.
