Dark Winds positions itself as one of the best TV series you may not have heard of. With the production of renowned names like George R. R. Martin and Robert Redford, its third season begins six months after Joe Leaphorn's (played by Zahn McClarnon) act of vengeance in the desert, an act that has resulted in an emotional burden rather than bringing the peace he had hoped for.
After taking the life of the man who took his son from him, Joe finds himself trapped in his own tormented conscience. When two disappearances are reported on the Navajo reservation, he decides to fully dedicate himself to the investigation, though he must deal with the unexpected arrival of an FBI agent, Sylvia Washington (Jenna Elfman), whose distant attitude creates tensions at the station.
On a personal level, after a kiss, Bernadette Manuelito (Jessica Matten) and Jim Chee (Kiowa Gordon) are forced to separate. Bernadette, for the first time, leaves the reservation to start a new job with the Border Patrol, where she feels compelled to investigate a human trafficking case involving the unscrupulous rancher Tom Spenser (Bruce Greenwood).
