Greeting to the Thumb Soldiers: versatile accessories for thumbsticks that provide variety, greater control, and improved accessibility.

Knobs, handles, spikes, and grips.

The British company Thumb Soldiers aims to offer a variety of thumb accessories that provide gamers with greater control over their in-game movements, without the need to invest in specialized hardware. Additionally, it seeks to create a platform that enables the customization of 'Soldiers', designed to cater to specific genres and needs. Accessibility and performance are priorities for the company, as these thumb adapters are intended to enhance players' dexterity and eliminate barriers that have made access to certain games difficult for people with disabilities.

The Thumb Soldiers experience begins with the installation of an accessory called ‘Knuckles’. These small plastic rings, with a rough texture, are placed over the thumbs of the existing controller and secured with a clamp system. However, the installation of the Knuckles can be a bit complicated and requires more effort than one might expect to fit onto controllers like the DualSense Wireless Controller and Nintendo's Joy-Con. After some effort, the last Knuckle is secured in place, highlighting the robustness of these accessories.

When using the Racer Kit, which consists of a vertical steering wheel and a curved pedal, players can enjoy a racing experience without the need for a dedicated wheel and pedal set. This kit easily attaches to the Knuckles system, allowing for precise control in racing games such as Grand Theft Auto: Online and Dirt 5, where a significant improvement in vehicle handling and response can be felt.

An important aspect is the inclusion in video games, as the range of Thumb Soldiers products is especially useful for those seeking greater adaptation to their physical needs. The different configurations, such as the Studs and Racer Kit, have proven beneficial for many, helping to improve the ergonomics and grip of the controls.

There is also an option known as Step Up, which introduces an elevated additional control pad, offering greater precision when aiming in shooting games. However, it may block access to the front buttons and d-pad, which could be a disadvantage for some players. The kits designed to enhance dexterity in the joysticks, such as Sticks and Studs, may not be as effective as expected for everyone.

David Chapman, founder of Thumb Soldiers, has expressed the need for players to be an integral part of the development of new products, suggesting that customization and community feedback are crucial for the future of the brand. They seek to develop a unique system where player participation determines the direction of products and future collaborations, offering an inclusive experience tailored to the varied needs of the gaming community.
