GoPro launches an ultralight and affordable Hero 4K camera for $199.
The GoPro Hero Ultra Light provides 4K video, 12MP photos, and a waterproof design for just $199. It's perfect for adventure lovers who want great performance without breaking the bank.
GoPro enthusiasts have a new camera available after the launch of the Hero, an ultralight and compact option capable of recording in 4K. This model is the smallest and most affordable camera from the company, priced at just $199. The Hero is water-resistant and combines a simple user interface with 4K video, 2x slow-motion recording at 2.7K, and 12-megapixel photos. It is already available in both physical stores and online through the GoPro website.
The company highlighted that the Hero is the smallest, lightest, and easiest-to-use 4K camera they have made to date, equipped with a touchscreen. It allows continuous recording for over an hour at its highest video setting on a single charge, utilizing Enduro battery technology, which ensures good performance in various weather conditions such as rain and snow. The model is water-resistant up to depths of 16 feet.
With a lightweight design, the Hero has a volume that is 35% smaller and weighs 46% less compared to the Hero13 Black model. It includes integrated folding mounting fingers, making it compatible with the wide range of GoPro mounts. Additionally, the Hero features the simplest controls the company has offered, with a rear touchscreen that allows framing shots, switching modes, checking battery and SD card status, as well as pairing the camera with a phone for easy control and content transfer via the GoPro app.
Recording modes include Ultra HD 4K and HD 1080p video, as well as compatibility with HyperSmooth video stabilization, which is applied during playback in the GoPro app. It also allows for capturing 12MP photos and slow-motion videos at 2.7K at 60 frames per second.
Several competitors offer action cameras that directly compete with the new GoPro Hero in terms of price and features. These include the DJI Osmo Action 3, which retails around $329 (though discounts may bring it closer to $200); the Insta360 (starting at $299), the AKASO Brave 7 LE ($140), the Yi 4K Action Camera ($199), and the VanTop Moment 6S ($120). Previously, the company introduced the Hero 13 Black model, priced at $399. Consumers can upgrade this model by opting for the Hero13 Black Creator Edition, offered at $599 and coming with the Volta Power Grip, Media Mod, and Light Mod. Additionally, GoPro offers the Hero13 Black in several "package" options for special uses, with prices ranging from $449 to $609.
