Google would be working on a "fake" email feature to avoid spam.

A feature called 'Protected Email' could soon be available in your Google account.

It has been reported that Google is close to launching a new email feature for its users, similar to the one offered by Apple through iCloud. A recent report mentions that an option called Shielded Email has suddenly appeared in the Autofill settings menu of Google. Currently, when users select this option, they are directed to an empty Google account page. However, an analysis of the most recent update of Google Play Services 24.45.33 reveals the potential features that Shielded Email will offer if Google decides to launch it officially.

Shielded Email will provide Google users with a service akin to Apple iCloud's "Hide My Email" feature. This feature will allow users to automatically create a randomly generated email alias, which is especially useful for signing up for mailing lists or websites. With the growing need to provide email addresses across various online platforms, users face an increase in spam and privacy issues. With Shielded Email, it will be possible to register for online services, receive and respond to emails without exposing their primary email address.

Additionally, email aliases will make it easier to track which sign-ups led to the user's email address being sold to third parties and spammers. Unlike Apple’s Hide My Email feature, which requires a paid iCloud+ subscription, it is still unclear whether Shielded Email will require a paid subscription when it is eventually launched to the public.
