Google may soon make it easier to share files between Android and iPhone.
Quick Share may be expanding its functionalities.
Quick Share, Google's file transfer tool, is available for Android devices, Chromebooks, and Windows, allowing for quick file sharing between these devices. Recently, there have been indications that Google may extend its compatibility to iOS and macOS.
According to expert observations, a comment left by a Google engineer in the Quick Share code directly mentions iOS and macOS, suggesting that there could be concrete plans to develop an application for these operating systems. Although it is not a definitive confirmation, this comment could indicate that work is being done on the implementation for Apple devices.
So far, there has been no official announcement from Google regarding this matter. Quick Share, which was previously known as Nearby Share, was officially launched in 2020 and is currently accessible on most Android phones and tablets. Recently, Samsung devices have also fully integrated this feature.
It is important to note that, given Apple's focus on its ecosystem, iPhone, iPad, and Mac users would need to download an external application to use Quick Share. This could pose an organizational challenge for some; however, those who own both an Android device and an Apple device may be willing to make this download if it enhances their file-sharing experience between their devices.
There are already some third-party tools that allow file transfers across platforms, but an official solution from Google could provide a smoother and more convenient experience. It's worth mentioning that earlier this year, Google and Samsung combined their sharing protocols to facilitate file transfers between Pixel and Galaxy phones, which could be a precursor to future integrations with Apple devices.
