Google launches Gemini 2.0, a new artificial intelligence with reasoning skills.
The new model is called Gemini 2.0 Flash Thinking, and its creators describe it as a tool that "clearly expresses its thought processes."
Google has introduced Gemini 2.0 Flash Thinking, an innovative "reasoning model" that utilizes artificial intelligence (AI). This new development is currently in an experimental phase, although it is anticipated to be launched on the market soon, allowing it to compete directly with OpenAI. Jeff Dean, chief scientist at Google DeepMind, describes this tool as a system that "clearly lays out its thoughts." The functionality of Gemini 2.0 Flash Thinking allows it to break down complex requests into simpler parts, providing it with the ability to "reflect" before delivering a response, thereby increasing its effectiveness in analyzing and processing information.
Throughout this year, the company has made numerous announcements, including 3D generators and collaborations in the military sector. While Google has been reserved about the technical details of the model, it is known to be based on Gemini 2.0 Flash, which is recognized for its speed and superior performance. Logan Kilpatrick, Google's product director, mentions that "this is just the first step in our reasoning process." Currently, Gemini 2.0 Flash Thinking is available free of charge through the Gemini API, accessible in Google AI Studio and Vertex AI.
The introduction of this model highlights Google's aspirations to position itself as a leader in the competitive and emerging field of artificial intelligence. A recent report revealed that more than 200 company researchers are dedicated to creating software with advanced reasoning capabilities, reinforcing its commitment to this area.
Additionally, Google has expanded its AI solution offerings with developments aimed at competing with OpenAI products. This month, the company launched Veo 2, an engine that allows users to generate videos of up to 2 minutes in 4K resolution from textual prompts, directly competing with Sora. It was also reported that its graphic generator Imagen 3 has been updated, now offering improved accuracy and a new feature called Whisk, which creates images based on user suggestions.
Major tech companies are focused on creating AI models with more advanced reasoning capabilities. These innovations are distinguished by their ability to verify information, enhancing the accuracy of the provided responses. However, they face the challenge of scalability, given that the computational requirements are high. Analysts indicate that Gemini 2.0 Flash Thinking will need to balance its reasoning potential with greater operational efficiency to compete effectively. This is crucial to rival OpenAI, which has solidified its leadership after being integrated into the new ChatGPT Pro subscription plan.
