Google Calendar launches its official dark mode on the web version: find out how to activate it.
Translation: Only 67 years have passed, Google...
The web version of Google Calendar has officially implemented a dark mode, a highly anticipated feature for many users. This option, which is being globally rolled out this week, offers a darker color scheme and a slight redesign of the interface.
The implementation was announced through a statement detailing the ability to toggle between light, dark, and default themes. Dark modes are known to help save some battery, especially on devices with OLED screens.
The update is already in progress, and some users have begun to enjoy this new feature. To activate it, users need to go to the settings gear located in the upper right corner of the page and, in the new dropdown menu, select 'Appearance.' There, they can choose 'Dark' and experience the new look of Google Calendar.
In addition to the addition of dark mode, the typography and controls have been adjusted according to 'Material Design 3' guidelines, which, according to Google, enhances the tool's modernity and accessibility. Personally, the calendar looks much cleaner, but the introduction of dark mode is the most significant improvement.
However, not all news is positive. Google has warned that these changes may affect some active Chrome extensions when using Google Calendar. Although it was not specified which extensions might be impacted, it was suggested that some, like G-Calize and Timely, could face issues. It's advisable for users to contact the developers of the extensions if they experience inconveniences.
Despite this potential complication, the arrival of dark mode is a relief for both the eyes and the battery life of devices in general.
